Guy Buttery - Live in Cape Town

“Buttery’s avant-garde world music is exceptionally beautiful – from composition to technique to atmospherics – and his latest release, “Fox Hill Lane” is one of the most adventurous acoustic recordings in recent memory.” – Guitar Player Magazine, USA2010 was an exceptionally profound year for Guy Buttery. Barely moments after winning “Best Instrumental Album” at the South African Music Awards and straight off the plane from a European Festival Tour, he returned home to South Africa for a run at the National Arts Festival and won not one, but two National Awards including the Standard Bank Golden Ovation Award for the Best Music Production of the festival, out of 4600 acts.

Apart from local achievements, Guy’s worldwide scope and recognition rose exponentially post the release of his third and latest album Fox Hill Lane. The response Guy received for what he believes to be his most mature album to date was phenomenal. Apart from the obvious accolades surrounding winning awards, Guy met nothing but glowing reports in 2010 on both the musicality and production of Fox Hill Lane with international press. The most noticeable of these being a 3 page spread in the latest edition of Guitar Player Magazine (the Worlds biggest guitar related publication) which subscribes to over 11 million readers worldwide.

Guy ended 2010 ended with a short break back in his hometown, where he took some time out to reboot his energy and write some fresh material in preparation for the New Year. It is hard to imagine how 2011 will top last year for this increasingly successful artist, however with such significant accomplishments in ones career things can only move forward. After two months break from touring as well as relocating back to Durban, Guy will be kick starting his schedule with shows across the country including a brief two show stop in his previous home province of the Western Cape. Be sure to catch this guitar wizard in action before he jets off again and is out of our reach for another stretch of high flying!
