Sentosa Cove Electrifies Fashion

Azealia Banks

No stranger to the fashion world, W Singapore’s Artistic Director Mr Has delivered a haute playlist to compliment the drinks and vibe of the bed nightclub.

Continuously at the forefront of Fashion, Music and Design, W Hotels Worldwide has sound tracked numerous fashion festivals from Bangkok to New York and worked with many immerging designers to infuse the passion points. “Fashion is a key passion point for W” explains W Singapore General Manager, Stephane Fabregoul. “And the Audi Fashion Festival celebrates exactly that, in a spectacle of glitz and glamour. It’s the perfect partnership of two like-minded brands.”

W Singapore, with official event partner INTEL (who created a live twitter wall in the event to connect the show with the guests intimately) presented the Audi Fashion Festival – FASHION NEXT PARTY at the Great Room at W Singapore on 17th May. Opened by W Global Music Director, Michaelangelo L’Acqua, kicked off the night with sultry tunes and a slinky vibe. An emotive and beautiful fashion show featuring outfits and vignettes from Singapore’s very own Zardoze label including some rare and beautiful creations, followed next, glamorizing the night. Blazing next was the gorgeous Little Boots from the United Kingdom. Little Boots is an English electro pop singer-songwriter and DJ whose second album Nocturnes was released on 5 May 2013 to acclaimed reviews. Little Boots aural beats created colour patterns and moved guests to embrace the dance and moved the night up a gear. Pop sensibilities mixed with synths formed fantastic hit tracks to bring the guests alive.

Headlining the party and flown in specially for this event by W Hotels Worldwide, the hottest American Hip Hop star of the moment, Azealia Banks intensified the night at her first ever performance in Singapore lending her New York cool to the party. Azealia Banks has been described by Billboard as having “shaken up the blogosphere like a snow globe.” Her simple black and white video for “212 (featuring Lazy Jay)” has racked up nearly 30 million views since she posted it in the fall of 2011, propelling Azealia to the top of NME’s Cool List and into the pages of The New York Times twice – months before her debut EP, 1991, had even been released. She was the face of designer Alexander Wang’s T Fall 2012 campaign and the way she fuses street sensibility, iconic fashion and musical sophistication made her the natural fit to front W Singapore’s collaboration with Audi Fashion Festival.

A controversial, high energy show featuring her 2 backup dancers, all clad in fluro fashions, Azealia fused her hard hitting New York beats with dance hall vibe, rap attitude and a playful but confident vibe.

Rounding out the night was the statuesque Kate Elsworth from W Hotels DJ Lab 2013 programme. Kate Elsworth’s career began with singing in jazz bands and writing for international artists, Emma Bunton of the Spice Girls and French Idol winner, Christophe Willem She later spent time in Ibiza, developing an ear for house music. Her tracks brought the party goers into a full on dance frenzy as the show moved into the early morning hours. Certainly a party for the ages.
